Volunteering and Horses and Fun, oh my!
January 17, 2008
Hurray! I heard back from the friendly people at Challenge Unlimited, which is a super cool, dare I even say ultra cool farm where they use horses and ponies to provide therapy to people with and without disabilities. I know what you’re thinking; it’s probably something along the line of “I didn’t know she had a disability.” (Or, if you’re my family, you’re thinking, “Finally, she’s doing something about her insanity.” Nice. Real nice.) Well, I don’t.
I’ve been looking for a place to volunteer so I can get out of the house and do something worthwhile with my time. This farm seems very cool, and not only do they offer a volunteering program, they offer a “working student” program where you can work a certain amount of time per week and then earn your weekly riding lesson. How cool is that? I’ll start out as a volunteer for the first 20 hours/three months, and then after that, I’ll work nine hours a week to earn my riding lesson.
That’s great! So not only is this a volunteering opportunity, it’s a learning opportunity, and an exercise opportunity. I’ve always wanted to learn how to care for and ride horses. And now I’ll get the chance. The first meeting is February 12. I’ll be the annoying girl with the camera.
