Have You Seen This Rest Stop?
March 15, 2008

- Location: milepost 42 (east bound) rest stop in western South Dakota, just east of Sturgis
- Date: March 13, 2008
- Description: Yellow crane with typed quote (see below)
Today’s crane comes from one of my good friends and teachers, Liz, who has been writing in Wyoming for the past month or so. She’s a veteran crane-folder, and took the opportunity to leave a crane at this rest stop:

Her crane was unsolicited, and I’m especially excited that she felt cool enough to leave a crane of her own accord. Here’s today’s quote:
“I have a recurring fantasy that one more article has been added to the Bill of Rights: the right to free access to imagination. I have come to believe that genuine democracy cannot exist without the freedom to imagine and the right to use imaginative works without any restrictions. To have a whole life, one must have the possibility of publicly shaping and expressing private worlds, dreams, thoughts and desires, of constantly having access to a dialogue between public and private worlds. How else do we know that we have existed, felt, desired, hated, feared?” –Azar Nafisi, Reading Lolita in Tehran
And since we’re into sharing, let’s enjoy the view from the rest stop together. Thanks Liz!
