Migraine Miracle

Mini Mushrooms

Here’s another awesome picture using the macro setting on my camera.  These mushrooms are just about a half inch tall.  Do they look bigger?  They look small to me.

I have all sorts of neat things to post about: cranes from Roy, soup from last week, stories from the camping trip.  Unfortunately, I’m experiencing a migraine at the moment, and it’s late and I’m hopped up on Excedrin and I’ve been crafting for the last hour and a half and now I have no time to write because if I don’t go to bed soon, I’ll never get to sleep and the migraine will go on forever.  So.  Let me just tell you about a minor miracle I experienced earlier.

For several months, I’ve known about this migraine “quick fix:” rub a lime across your forehead and the migraine will instantly disappear!  It sounds crazy, right?  I never tried it because I never remembered to buy a lime at the grocery store, and when I do have migraines, I don’t have the energy to even remember the lime fix, let alone drive to the store and buy one.  But through a strange twist of fate, I have a lime  that I rescued from the crazy burning spree at the end of our camping trip.  I hoped I’d never need to use it.  Unfortunately, today’s headache turned into a migraine at the end of the workday.  So there I was, doped up on Excedrin waiting for something to kick in when I remembered the lime.  I cut it in half and rubbed the cut end over my forehead.

Instant migraine dispersal(!) — for about 60 seconds.  Once the lime juice dried up, the migraine returned.  So I did it again.  And again.  I carried the lime halves with me around the house, and then out to the craft store where I bought crafts so my twitchy Excedrin hands could have something to do.  At that point, the limes were leaving little bits of flesh on my skin and across my hairline.  My skin itched where the lime juice touched it, and burned if I scratched.  Oh, agony and relief!   I probably looked insane to the people who saw me rub limes on my face at the stoplights.  I don’t even want to consider what the people working at AC Moore thought.

And then, as suddenly as it took them away, the lime juice stopped working.  Instead of relieving the migraine, it reduced it to a throb, and then nothing happened at all.  It’s a good thing, I’m sure.  If I had gone to sleep with the limes strapped to my forehead (as I was considering), I might’ve woken up with two raw spots where the juice burned my skin away.  And how would I explain that at work?

Thanks, Poppa-oo-mow-mow. How did you know I’ve been looking for home remedies and other homeopathic migraine treatments?

Thank you, Osiris — I think. If I’m translating correctly, you’re offering me limes?

Limes? Sweet, just add mint and sugar to your mouth while waiting for the driplets to trickle down for a non-alcoholic mojito treat.

I can totally see you carrying limes around and rubbing them on your head. You are a true nut. Why don’t you buy lime juice instead? No pulp will get on your forehead.

[...] other suggestions for a known migraineur?  I could just stock up on limes for the next year or so.  We’d have to build that feature into the wedding [...]

Welcome!

You've reached the notes of a migraineur on the quest to find the things that keep me sane. If you know anything about migraines, you know the first thing to go is chocolate. I also happen to be an avid feminist with a penchant for being crafty, cooking, activism, playing the piano and writing. I started this blog to help me get rid of the weekly migraines that have been showing up in my life for the past 2+ years. Is it working? We'll see. I usually post in time for lunch on weekdays.
