I do not Dream of Jeannie

November 14, 2008

I had a nightmare this morning about the wedding.  I can always tell when something’s bothering me in real life because I have strange dreams.  The one about the wedding involved Seth upstaging me on the day of by wearing a maroon velvet robe and long hair and parading down the aisle after me, people killing elephants outside, an  ex-boyfriend hitting on me, and having the ceremony in an elementary school gymnasium.  It was like I fell asleep for seven months and woke up on the day of my wedding, and nothing was the way we had planned.  Scary.  Oh!  And my mom showed up in her wedding dress and told me we could be twins.

So what’s bothering me?  I feel like I’m losing control.  (Most of my dreams are about control because I happen to be a first class control freak.  I can usually handle the regular dreams about my teeth falling out or being stalked or not being able to fly, but there was something in this one that was different.  Maybe because a wedding is a major event, and I have one coming up?)

This recession stuff is really what’s worrying me.  It sucks to work in a nonprofit during a recession because charitable giving is the first thing people tend to cut out of their budgets, and yet nonprofits need donations more than ever during an economic downturn.  So on top of not getting as many phone calls, we have to think about ways to scale down our expenses, like cutting back our events (like the big one I’m planning), and possibly reducing our hours.  How can we save money for a wedding if we’re making less than ever?

I just took a personality test that told me I’m NOT a Type A personality, and that I have a pretty balanced outlook on life.  In fact, I’m slightly more Type B than A.  Phew!  On top of everything else, I don’t need to worry that I stress too much.  That would make this wedding crazy.

Donation Favors-the most eco friendly wedding favor you can give, probably in the whole world. Instead of anything that you have to put together or fill with jordan almonds you could donate a dollar in each of your guests’ names to a non-profit of your choosing…Then write it up on a pretty card with a poem or something. Just a thought.

A thought we had in tandem! I was thinking about getting the Arbor Day Foundation to plant one tree in everyone’s name, and then setting out little cards that tell everyone that.

Welcome!

You've reached the notes of a migraineur on the quest to find the things that keep me sane. If you know anything about migraines, you know the first thing to go is chocolate. I also happen to be an avid feminist with a penchant for being crafty, cooking, activism, playing the piano and writing. I started this blog to help me get rid of the weekly migraines that have been showing up in my life for the past 2+ years. Is it working? We'll see. I usually post in time for lunch on weekdays.
